Touchstone Counseling PLLC is a business solely owned by me, Cynthia Diane Hughes, where I am licensed as a Marriage & Family Therapist in the State of North Carolina. I provide psychotherapy services to children, adolescents, adults, couples and families. In 1987 I earned a degree in Behavioral Science and again in 1989 a graduate degree in Clinical Psychology with a specialization in Child and Adolescent Psychology from John F. Kennedy University in Orinda, California. Licensed in California as a Marriage Family and Child Counselor, I began working to build a private practice. In 1994 I relocated with my family to Cary and shortly thereafter became licensed in North Carolina as a Marriage & Family Therapist.
Good psychotherapy requires a "match" between client(s) and therapist and avoids "stretching the client to fit the couch." Finding the right psychotherapist involves both clinical skill and personality match. A good therapist is genuine, warm, and offers a human relationship with guidance and good advice. What I offer as a clinician is an active style of psychotherapy with a high regard for where you are in your journey, what your goals are, and what things can be pointed out and changed along the path to growth and improved relationships. As a Marriage & Family Therapist, I work with individuals, couples and families providing child, adolescent and adult psychotherapy.
My approach is inclusive of Eastern and Western thought and I have knowledge of, respect, and regard for differing faiths and cultures. My approaches include fields of neuropsychology, neurolinguistics, emotional and cognitive intelligence, and communication skills. Although my graduate specialty included child and adolescent therapy in my family training, I enjoy working with a range of ages and problems. Of particular interest to me are approaches that integrate the whole person. My specialties include cognitive behavioral therapy, logotherapy, neurobiological theories, play, art, and sandtray therapies, ADD/ADHD, alcohol and substance abuse recovery, PTSD, trauma, grief, bereavement, chronic and terminal illness, women’s’ and men’s issues, and gay and lesbian issues.
It is my pleasure to walk your journey with you and help you find your strengths within, to build healthy relationships, and to find as much joy for living that life can hold for you.
